UBCon 2010
University of Buffalo
April 9-11, 2010

This was probably one of the best cons I’ve ever been to. Me, Brian and Trevor drove down each day. After the fact, we found out we could have crashed with Kez. D’oh! Pete was there as well. We all had a little corner of the Artists Alley to ourselves. It was a lot of fun.

There were lots of nice folks at the con. One guy spent half the day talking with us about comic books. So cool to find an American Comics fan. (Not that Otaku aren’t cool, it’s just that I’m far more interested in Batman than Bleach.) There was a strange girl with a squeaky bra (long story. Don’t ask.) I got a commission from two people to draw voice actor Chris Sabat, best known for playing Vegeta in Dragon Ball Z. They had me draw him (instead of one of his characters) and had him sign it. He apparently loved it. That’s some cool praise right there.

I’d like to take a moment to talk about the staff: THEY WERE AMAZING! They were, by far, the NICEST staff of any con I’ve been to. They kept coming around, checking on how we were doing, if we needed anything, and to take a look at our stuff. They even sent someone around to take food orders and delivered the food right to the table. THAT’S cool.

Needless to say, I’m going back next year, and I think Trev, Pete and Kez will join me.

Photos

Me at the table. I don’t remember if this was before doors opened, or just a quiet moment, but this is how the table was set up this year. The bowl of candy is new.

Brian at the table. The Horde flag drew some attention from fellow WoW-Addicts, which is always a good thing.

Bitey the Raptor. My raptor puppet\mascot decided to munch on Pete’s stuffed cookies.

Me (with red hair). On a whim, I dressed as Fry from Futurama on the second day. Sprayed my hair red, and people thought it was my natural hair color. Took a photo to show Rin, since she wasn’t there. I don’t know why I’m making a stupid face. I just am.

Fry (part 2). I had a can of Slurm I wanted to show off. People wanted to buy it.

Earthworm Lantern. A pic I doodled because of a conversation between me and Brian. It’s Earthworm Jim as a Green Lantern, with Jim wearing the ring around his body, and the suit being a construct.

Black Lantern Maes Hughes. Brian and I decided to start a new tradition this year: We’re going to get people who cosplay as dead characters to wear the Black Lantern ring and take a photo of them. This is the only guy we got this con, but we’ll get more.
